Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the most popular national parks in Uganda. Located in south western park of Uganda, Bwindi is Uganda’s most sought after destination. This UNESCO world heritage site deserves to be among the world class tourist destination in Uganda given that it harbors’ almost half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the whole world. It was gazetted as a national park in1991 by the Uganda government and this national park is the only place where you can experience the ultimate gorilla trekking experience.

Bwindi hosts 14 habituated gorilla groups where gorilla tracking is conducted.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is characterized by tangled vegetation, slippery valleys, and more to that, Bwindi  is also a source of five rivers that flow to lake Edward.

Getting There

Bwindi impenetrable national park is accessed by a number of roads from different places to national park. The park is about 530km from Kampala the capital city. it can also be reached by a road from queen Elizabeth National Park’s Mweya through the southern part hence giving the tourists a chance to view the  climbing lions in queen Elizabeth national park.

The park can also be accessed through Kabale high way that takes about five hours. the national park can also be accessed using air transport from Entebbe international air port to tarmac airstrip in Kisoro, visitors to Buhoma can use a chartered plane at Kayonza.

Climate

The climate of Bwindi impenetrable national park is always cold during the morning hours and at night and there fore visitors to the national park are always advised to carry heavy clothes in order to warm up during the cold days.

The national park also receives heavy rainfall during the rainy seasons.  It should be noted that there are sunny days as well.

Given the pleasant climatic conditions, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park can be visited throughout the whole year. In addition, the national park has a number of accommodation facilities catering for all groups of people in all kind.

Things to See

Bwindi impenetrable national park has a number of attractions and the star attraction are the mountain gorillas that are the celebrity in the park. The national park has a number of flora and fauna that is the park has 310 species of butterflies,51 reptiles, 200 trees species,v88 moths and 120 types of mammal.

Given that the mountain gorillas are the major attraction in the national park, most visitors who travel to Bwindi are looking to gorilla trekking within the impenetrable forest. The gorillas live in structured groups with defined home ranges. Currently Bwindi has 14 habituated gorilla groups that are tracked by tourists. Bwindi is the primate capital of East Africa given that the national park has 10 species of the primates including the mountain gorillas, chimpanzee, baboons, red tailed and the blue monkeys, colobus monkeys etc. Birding is also carried out in this national park. It has over 350 species of birds  that are not common and they include the following short trailed warber,shelly’s crimson wing, African green broad bill, blue headed sun bird and many others.
